Three Cord Marriage, Inc. is a biblically based organization focused on providing married and soon to be married couples with the experience, resources, and community they need to embolden them in their connection with God and each other. The following statements of our beliefs guide all that we do for the sake of God and His glory.
We believe the Bible, comprised of the Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. We believe the Bible to be inerrant in the original writings, God-breathed, and the complete and final authority for faith and practice. While still using the individual writing styles of the human authors, the Holy Spirit perfectly guided them to ensure they wrote precisely what He wanted written, without error or omission.
(Matthew 5:18; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21)
We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is God incarnate, God in human form, the express image of the Father, who, without ceasing to be God, became man in order that He might demonstrate who God is and provide the means of salvation for humanity.
(Matthew 1:21; John 1:18; Colossians 1:15)
We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit and was born of the virgin Mary; that He is truly fully God and truly fully man; that He lived a perfect, sinless life; that all His teachings are true. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross for all humanity as a substitutionary sacrifice. We hold that His death is sufficient to provide salvation for all who receive Him as Savior; that our justification is grounded in the shedding of His blood; and that it is attested by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead.
(Matthew 1:23; John 1:1,14; 1 John 3:5; John 14:6; 1 John 2:2; Isaiah 53:5-6; John 1:12; Acts 16:31; Romans 5:9; Ephesians 1:7; Matthew 28:6; 1 Peter 1:3)
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven in His glorified body and is now seated at the right hand of God as our High Priest and Advocate.
(Acts 1:9-10; Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25)
Marriage is created by God and has only one meaning. It is a covenant relationship uniting one man and one woman under God in a single, exclusive union. God’s created order is important and critical for our lives and for our worldview. The marriage covenant is a part of God’s prescribed order for our lives and our families; it is the basis of society. Furthermore, God’s Word makes use of the marriage relationship as the supreme metaphor for his relationship with his covenant people. Marriage is used as a primary example from the beginning of creation in Genesis to the end of earthly time in Revelation to help humanity understand the covenant relationship of one God with one people.
(Genesis 2:18-25; Jeremiah 2:2, 31:31-33; Ezekiel 16:8; Hosea 2:16, 19-20; Matthew 9:15, 25:1-13; 2 Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 5:25-33; Revelation 19:7-9, 21:1-3, 9)
We believe that human life begins at conception and that the unborn child is a living human being. Abortion constitutes the unjustified, unexcused taking of unborn human life. Abortion is murder. Any teaching that abortions of pregnancies due to rape, incest, birth defects, gender selection, birth or population control, or the physical or mental well-being of the mother are rejected and unacceptable.
(Job 3:16; Psalm 51:5; 139:14-16; Isaiah 44:24; 49:1, 5; Jeremiah 1:5; 20:15-18; Luke 1:44)
We believe in one God, who is Creator of all, who has revealed Himself in three distinct Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, yet who is one in being, essence, and glory. God is eternal, infinite, and sovereign. God is omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, and unchanging. God is holy, just, and righteous. God is love, gracious, merciful, and good.
(Deuteronomy 6:4; Colossians 1:16; 2 Corinthians 13:14; John 10:30; Psalm 90:2; 1 Timothy 1:17; Psalm 93:1; Psalm 139:1-6; Psalm 139:7-13; Revelation 19:6; Malachi 3:6; Isaiah 6:3; Deuteronomy 32:4; Exodus 9:27; 1 John 4:8; Ephesians 2:8; 1 Peter 1:3; Romans 8:28)
We believe in the deity and personality of the Holy Spirit. He regenerates sinners and indwells believers. He is the agent by whom Christ baptizes all believers into His body. He is the seal by whom the Father guarantees the salvation of believers unto the day of redemption. He is the Divine Teacher who illumines believers' hearts and minds as they study the Word of God.
(Acts 5:3-4; Titus 3:5; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; Ephesians 1:13-14; 1 Corinthians 2:9-12)
We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God.
(Gen. 2:26-27)
All our board members, employees, and volunteers of the organization must affirm and adhere to this Statement of Faith to qualify for involvement with the ministry. This is necessary to accomplish our mission, goals, and purpose. Behavior or counter-witnessing that does otherwise will impede and burden our integrity and mission. We believe that God’s grace can wipe the slate of guilt and sin, though the consequences are still incurred.
